Have You Ever Had...

Kool-Aid Ice Cream?
No? Ohh! It's So-o-o good!

I made up a batch of Kool-Aid ice cream and it's the easiest thing to make. When I was a kid, Kool-Aid used to have recipes on the back of the packets. This recipe came off one of them and we've been making them ever since. No more recipes on the back of the packets, but this has remained in the family recipe box all these years.

It has a similar taste to sherbet or italian ices, depending on what flavor Kool-Aid you use. This one was cherry and the girls beg for a bowl everyday until it's gone. Then they beg to make more!
Here's the recipe:
1 packet Kool-Aid
3/4 to 1 cup sugar
3 cups milk
Combine all ingredients in freezer safe bowl (I use a pyrex serving dish) and beat well. Freeze 1 hour and beat again. Return to freezer. Freeze another hour or 2 and beat again, returning to freezer when done. Serve when frozen completely. If there is any left after serving, it will freeze harder the next day and becomes like italian ice and you have to scrape it with a spoon.
Try it and let me know how you like it.

Hmmm... interesting. I have heard of cotton candy ice cream, bubble gum ice cream, to name a few... now this Kool-Aid ice cream.

Nah, I won't try it due to the amount of sugar...but I will keep it in the back of my mind and will share it with other friends about it...

Love your ideas! Do you make Monkey Bread? I have never tried it, but have heard that it is easy and delicious! I have two cookbooks that are made up of recipes off of the backs of cans, jars, etc. I will have to look through them again.

Karen-- It isn't that sweet, and I only give the kids 1 scoop each so they don't get that much sugar in each serving. If you use only 3/4 cup then it's 1/4 c of sugar per 1 cup of milk. Not much difference compared to store brand ice cream.

We've been making this since the 70's but I guess not many people think of using kool aid for anything other than drinking with.

Blue-- He's drinkingkool-aid, huh? Better than what he used to drink! I'll send you an email.

Lantana-- My mom has one of those cookbooks, but I searched and didn't see any Koolaid recipes. Can you check yours and see if there is there one in there using crescent rolls, ground beef and ... something topped with cheese! It was a recipe on the back of the crescent rolls from the early 80s and it made a hamburger pie. It was SO good and we never thought to save the recipe.

Love monkey bread!! I make that as a birthday breakfast when one of us has a birthday. Yummy!
