HELP!! I let Middle play some games on the computer this morning and she did something-- pushed a button or clicked on a link, something-- and then I tried to undo it and I think I made it worse. I know enough computer to get around but I'm not computer savvy so when something like this happens, I have no clue what I am doing. And why can't computer prompts be in english?? Or at least in english I can understand?!?
I need some help-- PLEASE. Somehow I did something and I lost everything. I mean everything-- all my pictures that I've downloaded and have no physical copies of. I could care less about the other stuff I've lost, but not my pictures! I have no printed pictures of Baby and it's basically 4 years worth of pictures gone. I refuse to believe they disappeared and I'm convinced that they're buried in the deep, dark recesses of the computer's files.
Can someone help me recover my pictures? Anyone willing to guide me step by step into how I can check? I'd be ever so grateful. I was a mess today and am so glad that the husband had the day off today so I didn't take out my frustrations on the kids. Leave a comment if you think you can help me and we'll see what we can do.
Oooh, I wish I could help. Ummm, I don't know much about computers, but I do know that deleted files are kept in your "trash bin" or "recycle bin" for a bit before they disappear....
ReplyDeleteHope someone can help you a bit more than that!
I'm no computer geek, but somewhere on your computer you can click on "restore" and it will let you type in a date, say 3 days ago. When you hit enter, it will restore your computer to whatever was on it on the date you type in. You might have to look through "help", or "tools" or in your start-up menu, but it's there. Try that and see if your stuff doesn't come back.
ReplyDeleteBarefoot-- nope, trashcan is empty-- nothing there. Makes me wish I took that computer class in school. Thanks, sweetie.
ReplyDeleteStephanie-- That's where I think I did wrong. I clicked on restore and typed in the day before date and what came back was a totally clean computer, as if I just took it out of the box. Everything that was downloaded, photo program, games, all gone. You think if I click on restore again, it would all be back??
Hi! I think maybe you should stop clicking on things!! (I mean that kindly...) This happened to me a few months ago and OH, the pics I would have lost! I have no idea how it was done, but the nice computer guy retrieved it all for me. It's hidden in there somewhere -- even the stuff you tell it to delete completely and forever can apparently be dredged up if you know what you're doing. GOOD LUCK.
ReplyDeleteget your computer to an expert! this is not a case for a layperson to solve. bring your computer to an expert before anything else happens. if money is an issue, you can check craig's list to see if anyone local does computer services at a reduced price or maybe a barter can be worked out.
ReplyDeleteThere is a GO Back feature on most computers that are less than 10 years old. It will show a calendar and you can pick a date (before your little one had her fun) and go back to that time.
ReplyDeleteDiane, Keri and Lantana-- I'm afraid to click any more buttons and will call the local computer fix-it place to see what they suggest. Hopefully it won't cost too much, but I'd be willing to pay the price, because I need my computer back to normal. Thanks for all your suggestions! I truly and really appreciate it. :o)
